PLANT SALE 2021 - Cancelled
Plant Sale Cancelled
We are sorry to announce that due to the current Covid-19 Regulations we are unable to host a plant sale this year.
Ways you can help:
If you have grown plant, thank you for continuing to support our local gardening community in these unprecedented times. Please contact: our Plant Sale chairperson Phoebe Wilson by clicking here.
If you would like to make a donation to the Grass Roots Growers we please send a donation via-etransfer to [email protected] to help us to fulfill our mission statement and organize future events:
GrassRoots Growers is a community organization whose mission is to encourage interest in local and organic gardening, improve our practical knowledge of plant life and support related education initiatives both locally and provincially. Through the support of our patrons and community members we have raised enough money to provide yearly awards: one from at Fleming College and one from at the University of Guelph. Before the pandemic, we held lectures, workshops and open table discussions on a variety of gardening topics as well as providing networking opportunities and hope to do so again in the future.

Natural Edge Program
In partnership with Quinte Conservation, Watersheds Canada (WC), invites waterfront property owners with open shoreline and who are within the Quinte Watershed to take part in WC’s Natural Edge Program. This program also applies to lakes, rivers and streams within the Salmon and Napanee Watershed regions.
This is a golden opportunity because the program helps waterfront property owners naturalize their shoreline by offering a full-service restoration program, which includes a free (confidential) site visit, creation of a shoreline planting plan, and the ordering, delivering, and planting of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers.
In addition, funding is provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation, therefore landowners only have to pay 25% of the total project cost. This cost will vary depending on the size of the property.
Why Naturalize Your Shoreline?
A natural shoreline provides many benefits as it:
- is important habitat for over 90% of aquatic wildlife
- improves water quality through the filtration of water runoff
- stabilizes soil
- regulates water temperatures
If you are interested in learning more about the project or connecting with project staff for a confidential free site visit, contact us at [email protected] or 613-264-1244.
Or for info, people can contact Susan Moore, Friends of Salmon River, at [email protected] or 613-379-5958.
We’re booking site visits for early April to complete plantings in May.
